Skin Care in San Diego

I live in San Diego and people from other parts of the country think we have no seasons, but they would be wrong. Come September and October mornings can have a slight chill, but an even bigger change during October is a weather phenom called the Santana Winds. I don't know the technical cause for this shift, but whether it's a low pressure in the ocean with a high pressure in the desert or the complete opposite, I do know the result is hot dry winds blowing over the mountains that make our cool off shore breeze disappear. I'm a skin care specialist and during this season my clients complain about how the weather makes their skin dry, dehydrated. So, I break out my arsenal of hydrating masks, richer moisturizers and soothing, lighter formulas for my acne clients. In addition, I recommend that everyone boost their water intake and add additional fatty acids (fish oils, walnuts, ground flaxseeds, borage oil) into their diet. Another great idea is to use a humidifier in the bedroom at night. All of these steps help keep the skin soft and smooth even in the driest of conditions. Although your community may not suffer from the Santana winds, winter is on its way and these same steps can help keep skin moist and soft as the temperatures takes a nose dive and the indoor heat is turned on.
